Cute Baby Furniture

By: Jane Bear

You are expecting the arrival of your new baby and are wondering what type of baby furniture you will need to make your life easier, and your little one comfortable. But you will be overwhelmed with choices, as it's sometimes hard to tell if products marketed as essential baby furniture and equipment are really necessary, or just fancy optional items which will actually get very little use.

The main furniture items you will need include a crib, changing table, a chest or dresser, a rocking chair and a car seat. The first thing you need to take into consideration when choosing baby furniture is that safety always comes first. Your baby will probably spend more time in the nursery than anywhere else, so making sure that the furniture is safe as it can possibly be should always be your first priority.

The baby crib is one of the first items you might begin shopping for. Keep in mind that the crib is possibly one of the most important purchases you will be making. This is the one thing you will be buying that you intend to leave your baby in for long periods of time and often unattended so necessary precautions should be taken to ensure the safest resting environment for your baby. Many of the cribs today are convertible, so they can be reconfigured into a day bed, toddler bed, and eventually a twin bed.

It's also essential to have a safe, convenient place for changing your baby, so it is wise to purchase a changing table. Again safety is very important here, so be sure the table you choose has safety straps and rails to keep baby on the table while you are changing diapers.

You will be able to find storage closets, dressers or chests in the baby furniture line for holding all the baby things. The storage furniture should have enough drawers for fitting all the babies clothing and accessories nicely. Also, you should check for easy glide and for durability.

If you have a car, or you ride in a car regularly, you need an infant car seat. A car seat is critical for safety, and it's often the law. You can opt for a car seat made specifically for infants, which often has a useful carrying handle. Then when your child is about a year old, you'll need to move up to another front-facing car seat.

A nursery would not be complete without a rocking chair. The rocking chair is an indispensable piece of baby furniture for both you and your baby. It's important to choose one that is comfortable for you as you will be able to sit and enjoy reading to, cuddling up and just holding your new baby while rocking away the time.

A bassinet, cradle, or basket can be a convenient and comfortable sleeping place for your baby during his first few months, instead of a crib. Strollers and high chairs would be a nice baby furniture addition when your baby gets a little older. Although a wireless baby monitor probably isn't necessary, it is great for peace of mind. It would mean you could be off in another part of the house doing something, but still be monitoring your baby's nap.
